PCCC: Poland’s performance in 2020 Doing Business report 17 December 2019, Sheraton Hotel

The Polish Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the International Group of Chambers of Commerce invite its members to a joint event with guest speakers from the World Bank and PwC.

The release of the World Bank’s annual Doing Business report is widely anticipated by inward investment agencies, location selection managers, COOs and politicians. Ranking countries by ten metrics relating to the ease (or not) of setting up and running a business across nearly 200 countries often provokes bitter controversies. Poland – which had made its way from 75th  in the table in 2008 to 24th  in 2016 – has now slipped back to 40th  place. Is this a reflection on the performance of the current government, or is it merely that other countries are reforming faster?

The IGCC will be discussing the 2020 Doing Business report with the World Bank, and with PwC. The World Bank presentation will discuss three aspects of the ease of doing business using Doing Business methodology and recent Doing Business 2020 report as a framework. Firstly,  the recent developments in  the middle- and high-income countries will be discussed. Secondly, the ease of doing business in Poland and main areas of improvement will be analysed. Thirdly, three indicators (starting a business, paying taxes and dealing with construction permits), will be reviewed in detail and best international practices in these areas will be presented. The PwC will look specifically into taxation.

The meeting organised by the International Group of Chambers of Commerce with the World Bank and PwC will offer insights for CEOs, general managers, CFOs, economists and anyone else interested in how Poland is performing compared with its neighbours and peers. Expect a fascinating event!
