IGCC meeting with Minister Morawiecki, May 17th
The IGCC International Group of Chambers of Commerce were delighted for the attendance of Minister Morawiecki at a breakfast meeting on May 17th at the InterContinental Hotel. The Minister covered several questions of importance for foreign investors put forward by the chambers including: special economic zones, Poland’s entry to the Euro-zone, problems connected with decreasing unemployment, bottlenecks in company registration, tax collection, environmental protection, bidding process for construction contracts, reform of the foreign trade promotion offices abroad, amongst others.
Circle K welcomes customers with launch in May 2017
The official launch of the Circle K brand in Poland took place on May 11th at their centrally located fuel and retail outlet on ul. Puławska 86, Warsaw. The branding roll-out will start with all Warsaw locations extending to all 352 stations throughout Poland until March 2018. Despite the change in brand, the stations will continue to offer its high quality food, drink and other products and customer loyalty programs. This marks the joining of Poland to the Circle K family of convenience retail outlets, which are already known and successfully operating in other global markets.

Spring Business Mixer and Whisky Tasting
A joint spring business mixer was held with colleagues from the Irish-Polish Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, March 30th at Bar and Books Podwale. An introduction to the world of whisky was made by Jamesons’ representative, followed by tastings of Canadian and Irish whiskys. The evening ended on a fun note with a blind tasting face-off between the Canadian, New Zealand, and Irish Ambassadors.

Canada@150 was celebrated with a full house of fans at a charity hockey match at Torwar Ice Rink on Sunday, March 26th. The afternoon was action-packed fun with friendly rivalry between the Canada@150 and Polish Stars Hockey Representation (Hokejowa Reprezentacja Artystów Polskich) teams.

Report – The Impact of Foreign Direct Investment: Contribution to the Polish economy in the past quarter century
On March 1, 2017, a conference was held to present the report “The Impact of Foreign Direct Investment: Contribution to the Polish economy in the past quarter century.” The International Group of Chambers of Commerce IGCC partnered to commission the report from Polityka Insight Research.
The conference was opened by Adam Czerniak, Chief Economist of Polityka Insight, who revealed key findings. This was followed by a panel discussion with representatives of the German, British, French and American Chambers of Commerce. Overall, the report shows that FDI has had a positive and vital contribution to Poland’s economic and social development in the past 25 years, though future FDI will depend on the transparency and stability of current and future policy.

Winter Reception 2017 – 75th Anniversary of Canada-Poland Diplomatic Relations
On February 9th, 2017, the sixth annual Winter Reception was a special edition to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the commencement of diplomatic relations between Canada and Poland. To recognize the occasion, remarks were given by Minister Wiesław Janczyk, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Finance, and by Minister Adam Hamryszczak, Under Secretary of State from the Ministry of Economic Development.
The event was attended by 200 guests of the PCCC and the Embassy of Canada who enjoyed music from the 1940’s from a live jazz quartet. An unveiling of a portrait of George Philias Vanier, the first Canadian Envoy to Poland in 1942, was made by Ambassador Stephen de Boer and Minister Janczyk, followed by cutting of the 75th Anniversary cake.

Fall Business Mixer with CETA Presentation
The PCCC were delighted to host colleagues from the Irish Polish Chamber of Commerce to a CETA presentation and business mixer on December 1, 2016. The event was held at the Beaver Club, Embassy of Canada. An update on the status of CETA was given by Nicolas Lepage, Senior Trade Counselor followed by a talk on the myths and facts of CETA by Roman Iwański.
