Canada@150 was celebrated with a full house of fans at a charity hockey match at Torwar Ice Rink on Sunday, March 26th. The afternoon was action-packed fun with friendly rivalry between the Canada@150 and Polish Stars Hockey Representation (Hokejowa Reprezentacja Artystów Polskich) teams.

On March 1, 2017, a conference was held to present the report “The Impact of Foreign Direct Investment: Contribution to the Polish economy in the past quarter century.” The International Group of Chambers of Commerce IGCC partnered to commission the report from Polityka Insight Research.
The conference was opened by Adam Czerniak, Chief Economist of Polityka Insight, who revealed key findings. This was followed by a panel discussion with representatives of the German, British, French and American Chambers of Commerce. Overall, the report shows that FDI has had a positive and vital contribution to Poland’s economic and social development in the past 25 years, though future FDI will depend on the transparency and stability of current and future policy.

On February 9th, 2017, the sixth annual Winter Reception was a special edition to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the commencement of diplomatic relations between Canada and Poland. To recognize the occasion, remarks were given by Minister Wiesław Janczyk, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Finance, and by Minister Adam Hamryszczak, Under Secretary of State from the Ministry of Economic Development.
The event was attended by 200 guests of the PCCC and the Embassy of Canada who enjoyed music from the 1940’s from a live jazz quartet. An unveiling of a portrait of George Philias Vanier, the first Canadian Envoy to Poland in 1942, was made by Ambassador Stephen de Boer and Minister Janczyk, followed by cutting of the 75th Anniversary cake.

The PCCC were delighted to host colleagues from the Irish Polish Chamber of Commerce to a CETA presentation and business mixer on December 1, 2016. The event was held at the Beaver Club, Embassy of Canada. An update on the status of CETA was given by Nicolas Lepage, Senior Trade Counselor followed by a talk on the myths and facts of CETA by Roman Iwański.
A networking breakfast was hosted by Air France/KLM on November 28th, 2016 at Endorfina Restaurant. Members of PCCC were able to catch up with colleagues and to have the opportunity to learn more about the latest in efficiency and comfort from business travel from Air France/KLM.
On October 19th, 2016, the PCCC together with guests from the Italian Chamber of Commerce enjoyed a special wine tasting presented by Filipo Mazzei of Mazzei Vineyard. The wines were matched with a superb meal hosted by Robert Mielżyński. The evening was an excellent backdrop for successful networking.
Canada is a world leader in the development and deployment of cost-effective environmental products and services. Participating in the 2016 edition of the POL-ECO-System Trade Fair October 10-13th in Poznan were the Ontario Clean Tech Trade Mission represented by 14 companies. The PCCC together with the Embassy of Canada were delighted to host a business mixer at the Piano Bar the evening of the 12th. The trade mission program was concluded with a seminar and B2B sessions in Warsaw on the 14th.

The PCCC and Embassy of Canada were delighted to meet with the Hon Pierre Pettigrew on October 10th. Mr. Pettigrew spoke to guests on CETA and the benefits for both Poland and Canada. He elaborated that to trade has been a part of human existence from earliest recorded times, and has contributed to the betterment of communities and their citizens. Further, he highlighted that although CETA applies to all entities, it will be the small and medium businesses who will have new opportunities to flourish which were before more readily accessible to larger organizations. The evening ended with a networking mixer for guests to meet Mr. Pettigrew directly for discussion.
The Canada Day Picnic 2016 took place at Biały Dom in the green, forested Konstancin suburb of Warsaw. Over 150 people were welcomed to celebrate Canada’s 149th birthday in a gathering of Canadians, business people, local communities and friends of Canada. The Ambassador of Canada to Poland, HE Stephen de Boer, officially opened the picnic with welcome remarks. A delicious buffet was served including Canadian picnic classics of gourmet hamburgers and maple leaf cupcakes. Guests of all ages enjoyed a variety of activities including live music, street hockey, painting and crafts for children, relay races and Canada Trivia Quiz.

The event, which took place at the Embassy of Canada on February 25th, hosted over 140 guests that included PCCC members, and representatives from the business, cultural and administrative sectors. Highlights of the evening included a performance by Juno-award winning producer/DJ Ariel Bialski aka DJ Heights and an exceptional prize draw for tickets on Air Canada Rouge, a premier viewing of Bombardier’s new C-series commercial jet, and a bottle of world renowned Seagrams Crown Royal. Guests were also able to see a display of the new Syrena concept car and Bombardier’s latest rail and air transport technology.
